A catalogue of the species of the genus Lomaptera (Coleoptera, Cetoniidae) in the Leiden and Amsterdam Musea Naturalis
Jong, C. de.
After Mr. F. T. Valck Lucassen's decease in september 1939 his collections have been transported to the Leiden Museum for better preservation. In 1941 the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, could acquire these considerable collections which also included those of Janson (London) and Girard (Geneva). These collections contain a great number of species, often represented by the types or series of types, many of which described by Valck Lucassen himself. In an obituary Uyttenboogaart (1940: 1-2) gave an enumeration of all papers by Valck Lucassen, most of which are on Cetonids. The monograph on the genus Lomaptera, announced by Uyttenboogaart, had to be translated, illustrated and to be made ready for printing; it was published in 1961 by the...

A character analysis of the species synergus Hartig, section II (Mayr, 1872) (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae) Naturalis
Wiebes - Rijks, A.A..
A survey is given of the characters used for the differentiation of the species of Synergus Hartig, classified with section II of Mayr. Special attention is given to the phenology of the species, for each of which the life-cycle is schematized, with differentiation in spring- and summer-generation. Two forms, provisionally indicated A and B, could not satisfactorily be identified with any of the known species. Sp. В is a common inquiline of oak-apples; biological observations were made on the larvae. Synergus mutabilis Deitmer, 1924, is synonymized with Synergus albipes Hartig, 1841.

A Clarification of the Status of Four Taxa in the Ectoedemia Angulifasciella Group (Nepticulidae: Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Wilkinson, C.; Bryan, G.; Menken, S.B.J.; Nieukerken, E.J. van.
The status of the four taxa Ectoedemia angulifasciella, E. atricollis, E. rubivora and E. arcuatella, has always been in debate. They have now been studied using several different systematic methods, relating to morphology, gel electrophoresis, host plant differentiation, life histories and distribution. Evidence is given here which demonstrates that they should be regarded as two pairs of sibling species.

A collection of sawflies ( Hymenoptera Symphyta) from Java Naturalis
Benson, R.B..
I have lately received for determination some very interesting sawflies collected in Java mostly by Dr. J. van der Vecht. The collection contained eight species not recorded in Forsius' recent list of Javan Sawflies (Forsius 1934), six of these being entirely new species. The types of these new species have been deposited in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, Holland; paratypes and duplicate specimens where available have been retained in the British Museum. In addition to these I have added the description of a new species of Anapeptamena given to the British Museum by Dr. C. Ferriére. The additions to the Javan fauna are listed below. ORUSSIDAE Ophrynopus maculpennis (Smith) Bajoekidoel, Banjoewangi, East Java, 1 ♂, IX. 1932, Toxopeus...

A contribution to the knowledge of the genus Spheginobaccha De Meijere (Diptera, Syrphidae) Naturalis
Doesburg Sr., P.H. van.
In 1883 J. M. F. Bigot described Speghina? macropoda after one female from "Birmania". Bigot used to place a question mark after the generic name when he was not sure that the described species did belong to the genus in question. The not forwardly produced oral margin, the presence of a facial tubercle, the spinose hind femora, and the wing-venation created a doubt about the correct use of the name Sphegina. He thought macropoda might need a new genus. De Meijere (1908) erected the new genus Spheginobaccha with Sphegina macropoda Bigot as type-species. He recorded one ♂ and one ♀ from Semarang, Java. He described both specimens and figured the wing. Though in many respects his female answered to Bigot's description of the female, De Meijere found also...

A generic reclassification of the Afrotropical Bolboceratini (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae) Naturalis
Krikken, J..
The generic classification of the Afrotropical Bolboceratini is discussed. Fourteen genera are recognized, five of them new: Bolboceratellus, Bolbodius, Bolboceratex, Namibiobolbus and Meridiobolbus. Microbolbus Vulcano et al. is synonymized with Mimobolbus Vulcano et al. Bolbaffroides and Bolboceratops are raised to generic rank. The genera are keyed, diagnosed, and their species are listed. Many new combinations are proposed, mainly for species hitherto combined with Bolboceras Kirby.

A neglected trichiine beetle from Costa Rica (Coleoptera: Cetoniidae) Naturalis
Krikken, J..
Giesbertiolus linnaei spec. nov. is described after a female from Costa Rica, in order to prevent this unusual beetle, collected as long ago as 1895, from falling into oblivion. It is compared with the two known Giesbertiolus species and with other Mesoamerican Trichiini. The ignorance as to the precise relationships of the three species included is briefly discussed.

A new Celaenorrhinus species (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) from a remarkable locality in the Philippines Naturalis
Jong, R. de; Treadaway, C.G..
Celaenorrhinus halconis spec. nov. is described from Mt. Halcon in Mindoro (Philippines). The new species does not seem to be closely related to other Philippine Celaenorrhinus species, but bears resemblance to the endemic Javanese montane species C. toxopei de Jong, 1981.

A new Cethosia-form from Boeton Naturalis
Jurriaanse, J.H.; Lindemans, J..
Prof. J. F. van Bemmelen in Groningen has presented for the collection Jurriaanse a beautiful male Cethosia, captured on the isle of Boeton in Nov. '16, by Mr. N. H. Krans, medical officer of the Royal Dutch Navy. Comparing this Cethosia with specimen in the collection of the Leyden Museum of Natural History, we found there a female, captured on the same isle by Mr. T. Elbert in 1909. As it happened that this specimen was also quite different from all others and no descriptions or figures could be traced in the present litterature, we suppose that we have to do here with a new sub-species, closely allied to the species myrina Feldr. Dr. van Oort the director of said Museum has been kind enough to lend this female specimen for description. The following...

A new cotton-stainer (Heteroptera, Pyrrhocoridae) Naturalis
Blöte, H.C..
Dysdercus mendesi nov. spec. Dysdercus spp. 1936, Mendes, L.O.T., Boletim Technico N. 23, Institute Agronomico de Campinas, II, Os "Manchadores" do Algodao, p. 4 pl. I—II. This species is rather similar to D. columbicus m. and to D. brevis m.; the whitish annulation to the ultimate antennal joint is usually indistinct, the pronotum shows no black transverse stripe behind. The third joint of the tarsi, however, is not lighter than the second, the general form is more elongate, the pronotum less broad, the antennae are slightly longer and the membrane is darker, especially at the base. The structure of the male genital segment differs from that of D. columbicus in showing a less pronounced inflexion in the apical edge, the protuberant parts less angular, the...

A new cryptic ground beetle species from the Alps characterised via geometric morphometrics Naturalis
Roggero, A.; Giachino, P.M.; Palestrini, C..
The European Alps support several ground beetle Nebria (Nebriola) species, which are morphologically similar. A study conducted on a Nebriola population located between the Eastern Pennine and Western Lepontine Italian Alps revealed the presence of two species, Nebria (Nebriola) cordicollis and N. (Nebriola) gosteliae, and some individuals that possibly represented an unknown taxonomic unit (UTU). Therefore, to further elucidate and characterise the morphological units at the site, we completed a comparative analysis using geometric morphometrics applying the semilandmarks approach. We examined the pronotum, the right elytron, and the median lobe of aedeagus. The quantitative analysis evaluated the overall variation in shape and size of the three...

A new genus and species in Velocipedidae (Heteroptera) Naturalis
Doesburg Jr., P.H. van.
Dedicated to Dr. H. C. Blöte on the occasion of his 70th birthday. In the collection of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie at Leiden, the author found a peculiar and most interesting specimen belonging to the Heteropterous family Velocipedidae. It appears to be quite different from the representatives of Scotomedes Stål, 1873, the only genus hitherto known is this family. The specimen is not in a very good state of preservation, but complete enough to serve as the basis for the following description. Bloeteomedes nov. gen. Typus: Β. borneensis nov. spec. Distinguishable from Scotomedes by the following characters: head longer, more cylindrical, underside without a median keel; first antennal segment extending far beyond apex of head, its length more...
